Public debate on the Law on the Protection of Patients’ Rights

Today in the Media Center, Law Scanner held a round table on “How to treat ailments of the system”, which is an open public debate on the Law on the Protection of Patients’ Rights. This Law should be before the Parliament soon. The roundtable is part of the project “Patients’ rights – state responsibility,” which is supported by USAID and ISC. The main objective of the project is raising awareness of the patients’ rights and the rapid adoption of the law in this area.

On that occasion, representatives of CSOs, the Ethics Committee of the Ministry of Health, as well as representatives the Ombudsman and the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, presented their views and suggestions. Also, participants pointed out the shortcomings of the current draft of the Law on the Protection of Patients’ Rights. The conclusions will be presented at a round table, which will be attended by the representatives of independent institutions, the Ministry of Health and the Board of Health and Family of the National Assembly.

Participation of all interested parties and stakeholders in the adopting process of the Law on the protection of patients’ rights, should contribute to sustainability of this Law, detailed and comprehensive regulation of patients’ rights including strong mechanism.
